The YMCA strives to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. We emphasize teamwork, good sportsmanship, self esteem and a respect for one another. YMCA Sports leagues are different from competitive club leagues in that everyone receives equal practice and play time. We’ve also modified each sport to make it safer and more enjoyable to play. Through our sports programs, we grow all participants regardless of ability, gender, race, or religious creed. We encouraging parents and coaches to support our kids with positive reinforcement and believe competition is a positive process when the pursuit of victory is kept in the right perspective.

Coaches wanted!

The success of our youth sports programs depends on volunteer coaches and keeping them informed. Our branch now offers a comprehensive sports orientation and training/clinic course for each of our (3) core sports. All coaches need to fill out and submit our Request To Coach Form and we highly recommend enrolling in our free Sports E-learning Course.

Safety First!

YMCA Youth Sports programs in partnership with the CDC is conducting an educational initiative to help coaches and parents alike recognize and respond to concussions. Coaches are mandated to take the Online Course and send in the certification form. All parents of registered players are required to read and sign the Concussion Awareness Form and return it to the coach prior to the first practice / game. Learning about the signs and steps to respond to head injuries, will allow everyone to play safe. Remember: If you think your athlete has sustained a concussion, take him/her out of play!.

Participants Code of Conduct

All YMCA Youth Sports depend on all participants to behave in accordance with common-sense, responsibility and character. We have adopted a Code Of Conduct policy whose guidelines are a minimum listing, but is not limited to, best practices for a rewarding and pleasurable experience for all. In those situations where behavior is deemed outside of our core values, and directed to either fellow participants, family members, staff or officials, the YMCA reserves the right and responsibility to dis-associate our program from that individual(s). Coaches are mandated to read, sign and return this form prior to coaching any team within the Birmingham YMCA branches.

Soccer is among the fastest growing youth sports team at the YMCA and a great place to teach the game to first-time players and 'return- players' is the Northeast YMCA. Our league is offered both in the spring and fall each year and run for (8) weeks-all games are on Saturday mornings. Practice is one time (60 minutes) per week. Teams fill up fast and rosters are limited to encourage skill development.
